Monstera deliciosa (Monstera pertusum)
Appearance of the plant
Large, glossy, heart-shaped leaves with characteristic holes and incisions
Graceful, climbing or supporting growth habit
In pots usually 100–250 cm high, depending on support and pruning
Location
Bright spot with lots of indirect sunlight
Also tolerates partial shade, but makes fewer holes in low light
Avoid prolonged bright midday sun to prevent leaf burn
Water requirement
Water as soon as the top layer of potting soil has dried out slightly.
Water regularly in spring and summer; water sparingly in winter
Likes slightly increased humidity for larger, more beautiful leaves
Winter hardiness
Not winter hardy, only suitable as a houseplant
Fun fact: The name pertusum means “pierced” in Latin and refers to the holes in the leaves, which in nature help them withstand strong winds and allow sunlight to reach the lower leaves.
