Dracaena fragrans Golden Coast (Scented dragon tree)
Appearance of the plant
Long, narrow leaves with a striking golden-yellow edge around a deep green core
Strong, upright trunks with a full crown of leaves
In pots usually 100–200 cm tall; slow growing but can grow much taller in ideal conditions
Location
Bright spot with lots of indirect sunlight
Also tolerates partial shade and does well in areas with less daylight
Avoid prolonged bright midday sun to prevent leaf burn
Water requirement
Water moderately: allow the top layer of potting soil to dry before watering again
Water regularly in spring and summer, more sparingly in winter
Better to tolerate too little than too much water
Winter hardiness
Not winter hardy, only suitable as a houseplant
Fun fact: The Dracaena fragrans gets its name from the wonderfully scented flowers it produces in the wild—something that is rare, but not impossible, among houseplants.
