Ficus cyathistipula – tree form
Appearance of the plant
Glossy, dark green, oval leaves that feel firm
Full, compact crown on a straight trunk, which creates an elegant tree shape
In pots usually 120–200 cm high, depending on pruning and age
Location
Bright spot with lots of indirect sunlight
Also tolerates partial shade, but grows faster and fuller in sufficient light
Not suitable for dark corners
Water requirement
Water moderately: allow the top layer of potting soil to dry slightly between waterings.
Water regularly in spring and summer; water sparingly in winter
Provide good drainage to prevent root rot
Winter hardiness
Not winter hardy, only suitable as a houseplant
Fun fact: The Ficus cyathistipula is found in the wild in the tropical rainforests of Africa, where it sometimes produces small fig-like fruits — although this rarely happens indoors.
