Appearance of the plant:

The Ficus microcarpa 'Ginseng' is a popular houseplant, especially beloved for its unique, bonsai-like appearance. The thick, swollen root base (the "ginseng") forms a characteristic, irregularly shaped trunk, from which a compact crown of glossy, dark green leaves emerges. The combination of robust roots and delicate leaves makes this plant a real eye-catcher, even in smaller spaces. Its typical height is between 30 and 100 cm, but if left unpruned and grown in a large pot, it can reach 2 meters or more, though this is rather unusual and takes years.

Location:

This ficus prefers a bright spot with plenty of indirect sunlight. Ideally, place it near an east- or west-facing window. Avoid direct midday sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves. It tolerates partial shade, but will grow more slowly in that case. Temperature fluctuations and drafts can cause leaf loss, so place it in a stable location.

Water requirement:

The Ficus microcarpa 'Ginseng' has moderate water needs. Allow the top layer of the potting soil to dry out before watering again. Overwatering can lead to root rot or leaf drop. Water less frequently in winter. Occasional misting is appreciated, especially in dry areas.

Winter hardiness:

This plant is only suitable as a houseplant in our climate. It cannot tolerate temperatures below 10°C. In winter, it should be kept indoors, away from cold windows or drafts. Also, make sure it's not near a radiator, as dry air can cause leaf problems.
