Appearance of the plant

Elegant, feather-shaped leaves on slender, upright stems

Dark green, glossy leaves that give a luxurious and tropical look

In pots usually 120–200 cm tall, but can grow up to about 3 metres indoors

Location

Bright spot with lots of indirect sunlight

Also tolerates partial shade and does well in places with less light

Avoid prolonged bright midday sun to prevent leaf burn

Water requirement

Water moderately: allow the top layer of potting soil to dry before watering again

Water regularly in spring and summer, more sparingly in winter

Likes slightly higher humidity, but tolerates drier air better than many other palms

Winter hardiness

Not winter hardy, only suitable as a houseplant

Minimum temperature: approx. 15°C

Protect against draughts and cold air currents

Fun fact: The Kentia palm is known as one of the strongest indoor palms and was widely used in royal palaces and chic hotels in the 19th century as a symbol of luxury and status.
