Straight, sturdy trunk that becomes more and more characterful over the years

In pots usually 100–250 cm tall; in open ground it can reach up to 9 metres in warm climates

Suitable for indoor and outdoor use; outside in a sheltered place away from strong winds

Ideal for conservatory, patio or as an eye-catcher in the garden

Water requirement

Moderate watering: allow the top layer of soil to dry slightly before watering again

In a pot, water more often in summer; water more sparingly in winter

Do not like wet roots for long periods of time, so ensure good drainage

Winter hardiness

Moderately winter hardy: tolerates temperatures down to approx. -5°C for short periods

More sensitive to frost in pots — protect in cold weather or overwinter indoors

In very mild coastal climates it can overwinter outdoors with good protection
