Nerium oleander
Appearance of the plant
Narrow, dark green leaves and large clusters of flowers in white, pink or red
Blooms profusely and for a long time, often from spring to autumn
In pots usually 100–200 cm high, in open ground in warm climates higher
Location
Likes a sunny, warm spot
Ideal for patio or balcony, in pots or in the ground in a sheltered spot
The more sun, the richer the flowering
Water requirement
Keep the potting soil slightly moist during the flowering period
In a pot, water regularly in summer, sometimes daily at high temperatures
Water less in winter, but never let it dry out completely
Winter hardiness
Moderately winter hardy: tolerates temperatures down to approx. -5°C
In case of severe frost, bring indoors or protect well with fleece.
Overwintering in a light, cool place (5–10°C) will promote flowering the following year
Fun fact: Nerium oleander is beloved around the Mediterranean for its long blooming period and strong scent — but all parts of the plant are poisonous if ingested.
