yucca rostrata
Appearance of the plant
Narrow, blue-gray leaves that grow in a tight, spherical crown
Sturdy, woody trunk that gains more character over time
In a pot it usually grows to a height of 100–200 cm; in open ground it can grow to about 4 metres.
Location
Sunny spot, tolerates full sun very well
Very suitable for both garden and patio, but also as a statement plant indoors in a light spot
Likes dry conditions and well-drained soil
Water requirement
Very little water needed: allow the soil to dry completely between waterings
Water occasionally in summer; keep almost dry in winter
Sensitive to root rot in soil that is too wet
Winter hardiness
Hardy to approx. -15 °C in well-drained soil
Protect young plants or potted specimens from severe frost
Very resistant to drought and wind
Fun fact: The Yucca rostrata is one of the hardiest yuccas and is often called the “beaked yucca” in the US because of the shape of its flower buds.
