Appearance of the plant:

The Yucca rostrata is a striking, slow-growing desert plant with an architectural appearance. It has a sturdy, narrow trunk and a perfectly rounded crown of stiff, narrow leaves in a silvery-blue to blue-gray color. The leaves are closely spaced, creating a sleek and symmetrical silhouette. Mature specimens can reach a height of 2 to 4 meters (6.5 to 13 feet), making this yucca a real eye-catcher in the garden or pot.

Location:

This plant loves a sunny, warm location . It thrives in full sun, both in pots and in the ground. The soil should be well-draining – sandy, gravel, or a mix with gravel are ideal. In wet climates, it's recommended to plant it in a raised spot so excess water can drain away. It's less suitable indoors, unless you have a very bright, warm greenhouse.

Water requirement:

The Yucca rostrata is highly drought-tolerant and has low water requirements. Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. It's better to underwater than overwater, especially in autumn and winter. For potted plants, it's important to have a drainage hole so water can drain properly. Overwatering is one of the few risks with this hardy plant.

Winter hardiness:

The Yucca rostrata is exceptionally hardy for a tropical-looking plant and can tolerate temperatures down to -15°C to -20°C , provided the soil is well-draining. Wet winters pose a greater risk than frost. Protecting the crown from prolonged rain or snow (for example, with a rain cover or fleece) is recommended in humid regions. It is somewhat more sensitive in pots and is best sheltered or brought indoors temporarily during severe frost.
